Arts in March

Welcome back to DUAS Loop. We can't believe it's March already. It's about a year since we went into lockdown, and there's light at the end of the tunnel. As restrictions start to ease, we are looking forward to seeing galleries, theatres and other arts spaces opening. Keep your eyes peeled for updates in future editions, and keep scrolling for the freshest arts news now!

We can't wait for exhibitions in person in not too long! In the meantime, though, here are some exhibitions you can enjoy from home, online:

In the North-East
The Eston Arts Centre presents SOLSTICE, a film by Morgan Black, which explores the relationship between landscape, natural cycles, nature, and human interpretations of, and relationships with, these themes. You can watch the film on their social media channels:
Instagram @estonartscentre
Showing: 4th March - 31st March, 2021
Find out more here.

Further afield
Charles Gaines 'Multiples of Nature, Trees and Faces.'
"With this exhibition, Gaines continues to engage formulas and systems that interrogate relationships between the objective and the subjective realms, as well as navigating ideas around identity and diversity." (Hauser & Wirth website)
See the full exhibition here, and book your space for in-person from 12th April!
Showing: 29th Jan - 1st May, 2021.

Mark Bradford 'Quarantine Paintings.'
"Bradford’s ‘Quarantine Paintings’ finds the artist exploring the nature of creativity in isolation and the role of art in a time of intense societal indetermination." (Hauser & Wirth website)
See the full exhibition here.

You can check out the full collection of Online Exhibitions by Hauser & Wirth here.

What's "in"?

This month's recommendations are ideal for listening to on your daily walk, or watching as a break in the midst of summative season.

Podcast Pick
This month's podcast to listen out for is Shade, hosted by Lou Mensah. It opens up a pertinent discussion about narratives on representation and identity in the arts. The conversations involve a wide community of creatives across disciplines, featuring the likes of arts The White Pube and Small Axe screenwriter Courttia Newland.

Mensah has worked in the creative industries for 20 years as a fine art photographer with an array of other creatives, her experience and insight meaning the conversations she hosts on the podcast are relevant, engaging and challenging. You don't want to miss this one!
Having just completed its fourth season, there is plenty of content to keep you going until the next season is released!

Listen here and follow on Instagram here.

Films
We can't believe we hadn't discovered it before, but the BFI free films collection is extensive, and definitely worth a browse.

Why not try the film on Tom Mcguinness, "a painterly profile of County Durham's brilliant miner-artist"? Watch for free here.

...And that's a wrap!

Thank you for browsing our first edition of the DUAS Loop, keep up to date with our Facebook and Instagram for more updates, and be sure to check out our latest interview with Lady Kitt here. Keep your eyes peeled for our upcoming interview in 2 weeks time!
