Paper Landscapes Art Workshop Saturday 4th March, 2.00 – 4.00pm at the Oriental Museum Join us for a creative workshop with artist Victoria McLeod. Victoria will take you through the steps of experimenting with different textured papers to create a seascape. These wild scapes can then be enhanced with line drawing or hand stitching, making them unique. All materials provided. Book your place at  Eventbrite . However, please do get excited for…   Sanctuary in Words with Lizzie Lovejoy Wednesday 7th December, 4-6pm at 7 Owengate What is Sanctuary? This year's Student Art Prize theme follows this concept, and throughout the word-based workshop, with artist and writer Lizzie Lovejoy, you are invited to explore what Sanctuary means for you. Where do you find it? What does it look like? Each participant will delve into words that represent these ideas and, with guidance, create their own visual poem to create a piece of art which is part word, part illustration. Welcome to the new DUAS monthly newsletter for the year 2022! We hope to bring you a little newsletter like this each month just to keep you up to date with our society's goings on and keep you in the loop about what is happening in the art world.  There will be three main sections: What's on? – what the society has planned so far for the month and any other art-related events happening in Durham that we are aware about.  What's in? – a section dedicated to any recent happenings in the art world locally, nationally or globally. Welcome to the first edition of the Durham University Art Society Newsletter for the new 2021/2022 academic year!  We will be updating you on:  What's been on - find out about art-related activities that have been going on within the society and further afield! Introducing: Petra Szemán and 'Vug'

'Elusive', 'Ontological', and 'excitable':  Petra  Szemán's work in three words. Petra  is a moving image artist working with animation and game-like immersive installations, whose practice is 'centred around instances in which real life can be experiences as fictional.' In her most recent project 'Vug', she teamed up with Durham University's 'Durham Digitale' and the Killhope Lead Mining museum in Durham. Amana caught up with Petra to discuss this exciting new project and other aspects of her pioneering digital art practice.   Amana Moore: First off, who are you? What do you do? How did you get to where you are now? Petra: I’m Petra, a video artist working with animation and computer games. I grew up in Budapest, Hungary; came to Newcastle to do an art degree, and ended up loving it here. I lived in Japan for two years on the MEXT Research Scholarship, and ended up returning to the North East in 2020. I have a studio in Newcastle
